Tom Baggott

Edited version of Captain’s email:

Tom’s funeral will be at 1430 on Wednesday 6th June at All Saints Church,
Winteringham.    Tom loved flowers, so flowers would be
appreciated.
If you are able to attend, please do so. Let us show our appreciation for
this wonderful gentleman’s friendship and for all that Tom has done for the
HYC and let us help to give him the respectful and memorable goodbye that
he deserves.

Best wishes,

Roger Smith
Captain

Saltfleet Haven BBQ 7th July

It must be 4-5 years since I went to this and I won’t be going this year but here are the details: (Word .doc)

BBQ2012

which came with this email from Jonathan Baines:

Hi All
Please find attached the info for this years Saltfleet Haven BBQ and also a
couple of pics from last year.
Last year was a good doo, so its well worth the trip.
I spoke to Billy from Saltfleet and the 3 boats that are coming to Gib on
Saturday for our event day are intending to sail across to Norfolk on the
Sunday, so we may end up with an even bigger flotilla!

Website withering on the vine?

It’s more than a year since the last post or update here. I’ve just renewed the Custom Design upgrade (which allows us to use our own colours and fonts) for 15$ including a one-off discount for this renewal of 50%. (So 30$ next year – too complicated to explain the history).

But I’ve done this from Portugal (where the vine is good) and rarely being in Humberside myself, seem to receive no news information or material for the website any longer. Nothing from the committee or fleet captains. My emails to the Captain go unanswered. No new photographs (or video?) from members for the gallery/website.

The website could be a useful source and reference for current information – if someone will provide it. We could have race results on line within hours using the software I’ve recommended before (used by many clubs on their websites).  However, I can’t do this on my own – being out of touch as it were – and wonder if any member would take it on – but don’t do it unless the Committee and Officers indicate they will provide ongoing support and information (in electronic text formats!). Alternatively, if no-one’s bothered, we could just let the website wither and die. (Whither now?) (Seems this is my 50th post out of a total of 105)

RNLI Appeal for Help

Dear Humber Yawl Club Member,

On 18th June the RNLI is holding its Hull Flag Day in the centre of the City – based in Queen Victoria Square. The previous flag days in 2007 and 2009 raised nearly £4000 for the Lifeboat Service.

Local supporters and RNLI Branches from Hessle, North Ferriby, Beverley and Withernsea are all taking part. We are looking to get as many collectors into the City Centre as possible. Therefore I wondered whether any members of the Humber Yawl Club might be interested in supporting us on that day.  Attached links are a letter going out at the end of this week and a form for completion.

Use of Website

Roger asked me a while ago about the use the website gets, site statistics and the like. These are available to editors on the site – apart from Roger and myself, nobody who has shown an interest and signed up as a ‘user’ (4 members to date) has got as far as becoming a contributor, author or editor and I think this is a pity as many more officers or members could contribute. (See the details on the Editors page).

I did post details of site statistics from WordPress in early January here.
